A380 Jumbo Jet Clips Tail of Regional Jet At JRK [VIDEO]

In yet more bad press for the super jumbo A380 jet, an Air France A380 has clipped the wing of a smaller Bombardier regional jet at JFK airport today.

Newswires report that the regional jet was stopped on the taxi way, while the A380 taxied for takeoff. As the video shows, the Delta jet was indeed stopped, and the A380 was taxiing behind the regional jet, when it’s massive wing “clipped” the much smaller jets rear tail, spinning it 90 degrees in the process.

Now, I’m no flight expert, or a physics expert for that matter, but should the really be describing this encounter as “clipped”? That regional jet spun like a top. To me a clip would be a minor scratch and no movement. This a380 “clip” spun that baby jet fast and hard!

JFK airport had spent years and many hundreds of millions of dollars altering taxiways to accommodate the new A380 large size and 260 foot wingspan, as well as some gate and terminal modifications. It seems they may need to re-evaluate those modifcations.

Luckily, no one was injured on either plane, as they were on taxi, so everyone should have been seated and buckled up. Take a look at the video, and let us know if you would use the word “clip” to describe this incident between the worlds largest passenger jet, the A380 and a tiny little regional jet, at JFK.
