We don’t even know if there will be a 2012 NFL season, but Electronic Arts doesn’t care. They’ll be going ahead with EA Sports Madden NFL 2012 regardless of the NFL lockout, and they’ll be going with Peyton Hillis as their front man, to help market the latest season of EA Sports Madden Football. The question is why, and for some, who IS Peyton Hillis?
Today Electronic Arts announced that fan voting has chosen Cleveland Browns running back Peyton Hillis as the cover star of EA Sports Madden 2012, beating out Michael Vick by a wide margin. Michael Vick was 2004 cover man. ESPN is reporting that Hillis beat out Vick by a very wide margin of 65% versus Vick’s 35%.
While we here at California Examiner are a little perplexed by the choice of a seemingly unknown NFL “star”, this is based mainly on the fact that Hillis plays for a small market team, so we just didn’t know that much about him. Really, how many times have you watched a Cleveland Browns game on national tv, unless you live in the Cleveland area, of course.
Peyton Hillis is going into his fourth year in the NFL (assuming the season happens), and actually had a stellar third year, with 1177 running yards and 11 touchdowns, plus an additional 477 yards and two touchdowns receiving. That’s no slouch in my books, but the question is why hadn’t I ever heard of him?
Hillis beat out some big names in this years competition for Madden NFL 2012 cover man, including Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan and Green Bay QB Aaron Rodgers, along with Vick. Clearly, Cleveland Browns fans are also big EA Sports Madden NFL video game addicts.
The question is can Peyton Hillis survive this season, with the Madden NFL cover man curse?
