Kentucky Derby 2011:No Sure Winner With Uncle Mo Out

It is now official. The favorite horse that everyone was sure to win the Kentucky Derby 2011 is out of the race. There has been speculation all week as to whether Kentucky Derby favorite Uncle Mo would be racing. The trainer waited until the last possible minute to announce that the mysterious stomach problem was going to keep him out of the race. Uncle Mo has been plagued with this gastrointestinal infection for three weeks and the treatments he has been undertaking have provided little relief.

Looking at the field of 19 horses, who do they think will win the coveted blanket of roses? The trainer of Uncle Mo does have another horse that is running in the race but he is not sure if this horse can step up and do what he had planned for Uncle Mo to do, which is win the Kentucky Derby.

There have been so many defections in this year’s field it is turning into a race of unproven horses. Horses that were considered legitimate Derby shots such as The Factor, Premier Pegasus, and Toby’s Corner are no where to be seen in the Derby field. Instead you have horses such as Watch Me Go, Derby Kitten, and Shackleford. These horses are not only unproven but also largely unknown.

The closest horse to a sure thing is Dialed In. Calvin Borel has caught a ride on Twice the Appeal, which went from 30/1 to 7 to one odds as of this morning, with Borel as the jockey.  Watch the race and see who emerges the winner of the Kentucky Derby 2011 in this field of unknown and unproven 3-year olds.
