The jockey who got to ride Animal Kingdom, John Velazquez was actually supposed to ride Uncle Mo in the Kentucky Derby who was scratched due to a stomach ailment. Now both jockeys are riding in the Preakness but on horses they were not originally scheduled to ride.

Some of the other horses that are scheduled to run in the Preakness that also ran in the Kentucky Derby are Dialed In, Mucho Macho Man, and Shackleford.
