What is Friggatriskaidekaphobia?

It is the morbid fear of Friday the thirteenth, which is Frigga’s Day. Frigga was an ancient love and fertility goddess of Scandinavia. Christians called this goddess a witch and said that Friday’s were the witches’ Sabbath, or holy day. Friday the 13th superstition is the number one superstition in America but on the other hand, only about ten percent believe that it is an unlucky day.

If you have the fear of things that are associated with the number 13, you have the phobia known as triskaidekaphobia. Some of the reasons people think the number thirteen is unlucky is because of the association of the number with a bad incident. Some of those bad incidents include the Last Supper and the fact there were only 13 men at the table, which was when Jesus was betrayed by Judas. They also attribute it to Loki, the Norse god of evil, and his bad reputation. A riot was started when he interrupted a banquet of twelve people with him making thirteen people. On a different note, in ancient China and Egypt, they considered the number thirteen lucky.

If you want to impress your friends with a new vocabulary words, you can use either one of these, providing you can say them of course.
