Dangerous and Deadly Heat Wave Grips Midwest States

This heat wave is just one of many weather problems to hit the Midwest in the past few months. It joins the list of the tornado in May that hit Joplin, Missouri and the ongoing flooding that is occurring along the Missouri River from Missouri through Montana. This heat wave is quite possibly the most significant heat wave in the past five years that has hit the Midwest.

The states that are going to be impacted include Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota, Nebraska, Kansas, North and South Dakota, and Oklahoma. The weather forecasters are predicting that the heat indexes could hit one hundred fifteen degrees. This heat wave will more than likely persist throughout much of this coming week. Although they have stated certain states this heat wave could impact more than thirty six states so the meteorologists are urging everyone to take extra precautions.

The meteorologists are expecting for the states to see temperatures of ninety degrees Fahrenheit or higher with some seeing temperatures over a hundred degrees. The heat wave is at this time focused on the Mississippi Valley and the High Plains but is expected to go east by the mid week. Some of the bigger cities, like Chicago, also have to factor in poor air quality along with high temperatures and high humidity.

If you are in any of these areas make sure that you stay indoors with the air conditioning on and if you have to be outside, take frequent rest breaks and stay hydrated.
