Manny Pacquiao Says He Will Fight Mayweather In 2012

One of the most highly anticipated fights in history of professional boxing could finally happen in 2012. Filipino boxing superstar Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao said he strongly believe he will fight undefeated American boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr. next year. Pacquiao said his promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank Promotions is now laying down the foundation for his mega-buck fight against Mayweather next year in the United States.

He said there is no more reason why the fight could not happen since he already agreed to undergo a random, Olympic-style drug testing as what the Mayweather fight wants. “I will fight Mayweather next year,” said Pacquiao, who is currently also a congressman in the Philippines representing the lone district of Sarangani Province.In a recent talk with the media, Pacquiao also revealed that he plans to fight two or three more fights before he can finally call it quits in his colorful boxing career.

Arum in a separate media interview also feels confident that the highly anticipated fight between his ward and Mayweather can finally happen in 2012.“We will do whatever we can to make that fight happen,” Arum said. Boxing fans and experts around the world had long salivated for the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight to happen to determine who is really the better boxer between the two top pound for pound boxers in the world.

Meanwhile, both Pacquiao and Mayweather are scheduled to fight separate opponents before the end of 2011.Pacquiao is slated to fight his nemesis Mexican boxing star Juan Manuel Marquez on November 12 in Las Vegas. The fight between Pacquiao and Marquez is their third fight and considered a good ending in the rivalry between the two superb boxers.  It can be recalled that the first fight between the two ended in a draw while the second fight went in favor of Pacquiao.

Marquez who wants to show the world he is a far bette r boxer than Pacquiao vowed to give it his all to defeat the current top pound for pound boxer in the planet.  Mayweather for his part is set to face Mexican/American boxing champion Victor Ortiz also in the US.
