3-time US Open Champion Serena Williams Seeded 28th In 2011 US Open

Some three weeks before the actual start of the US Open, the tournament is already getting much buzz among tennis aficionados around the world. A number of tennis experts were raising eyebrows after the United States Tennis Association ranked three-time US Open champion 28 in the prestigious professional tennis tournament. The tennis experts said being a three-time champion and adds on favorite to win the tennis tournament, Williams deserved to have a higher seeding.

However, USTA stood firm with its seeding and place Williams 28th among the competitors in the forthcoming US Open. A former top ranked player in the global tennis ranking for women, Williams is now ranked 29th in the word after missing tennis action for 11 months due to multiple injuries that she suffered in her career. Despite her average tennis ranking, Williams is on a roll lately as she won her recent two tournaments to remain a strong contender for the crown in the 2011 US Open.

Williams for her part said she is very ready to play and confident she will win the US Open this year and climbed back to the top in the professional tennis ranking for women in the world. Williams is considered to be one of the greatest women’s tennis players of all time, despite a career hampered by numerous injuries. She has won 27 Grand Slam titles that places her ninth on the all-time list: 13 in sing les, 12 in women’s doubles, and 2 in mixed doubles. Moreover, Williams has won more Grand Slam titles in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles than any other active player, male or female. She also won two Olympic gold medals in women’s doubles.
