Serious, Unconfirmed al-Qaida 9/11 Bomb Threat Under Investigation

As the tenth anniversary of that eventful day in history approaches the United States counterterrorism officials are trying to find out if a credible threat is for real or not. The threat is stating that al-Qaida will use a car bomb in Washington D.C. or New York City on tunnels or bridges. This threat is the first active plot that is time to coincide with the 9/11 terror attacks that happened almost ten years ago and killed almost three thousand people.

The United States Intelligence community received this bomb threat on Wednesday and since then the counterterrorism officials have been investigating it. Based on the information that was received there have been three people who have either recently entered the country or are traveling to the United States that law enforcement officials were pursuing.

Even though there has been a credible but unconfirmed terrorist threat the terror alert has not been changed but the police in both Washington D. C. and New York City are planning to increase their staffing levels even though they have already increased them in preparation for any trouble during any of the celebrations on September 11th.

Information taken from Osama bin Laden’s compound when it was attacked has made law enforcement officials wary of a possible terrorist attack on this day. In addition, information also mentioned other American dates that might be used for a terrorist attack. Officials are also concerned that the anniversary of 9/11 might be a good time for the al-Qaida to retaliate for Osama bin Laden’s death.

The threat of a car bomb was in a single piece of information that was so specific that it could not be ignored. The mayor of New York is telling the people there to just go on about their business as usual.
