Border police successfully seized a whopping 14 tons of marijuana, valued at over $22.6 million, from a tractor trailer bound for the United States at a California desert checkpoint. According to reports, police guarding the checkpoint located 60 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border discovered the marijuana in 1,100 bundles hidden inside a tractor-trailer. The huge drug haul bust is considered as one of the biggest U.S. checkpoint seizures outside a border crossing nationwide.
It was learned that the latest drug haul is bigger than the drug seized in various checkpoints all over US in 2009 and 2010. Some 10,000 pounds of marijuana was seized in 2010 a nd 17,000 pounds in 2009. In the initial police investigation, government policemen discovered the cannabis stashed in wooden crates after a canine team honed in on the trailer and agents scanned it for drugs. Moreover, it was also learned that the 35-year-old male driver of the tractor trailer had also been arrested in the connection with the discovery of the huge marijuana drugs.
