Despite Economy, Hawaii Hotel Room Occupancy Still Rose In AugustThe economy around the world might not be rosy, but Hawaii hotel owners remain busyand upbeat. According to reports, hotel occupancy in Hawaii rose in August to the delight of hotel owners in the area. Based on the data released by Hawaii officials, the occupancy rate in hotels rose to 77.5 percent, a 1.8 percent increase over August 2010.

Tourism officials in Hawaii explained the hotel occupancy rose because many tourists chose to stay in hotels and that many tourists from Canada, Australia and China visited Hawaii this year. Amids the economic slowdown, it was reported that in August, luxury hotels were the busiest in the industry in Hawaii, reporting an 83.2 percent occupancy rate. Oahu had the highest occupancy rates in the state at 87 percent, thanks to more flights from Japan and Korea as well as the introduction of regular, non-stop se rvice from Shanghai.

Moreover, it was learned that Kauai hotels had the largest increase in occupancy, up 9 percent to 71.2 percent. The average room rate also jumped 11.6 percent to $216.90.
