Not exactly surprising given the popularity of Call of Duty One and Two, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 set first day sales records this week, bringing in $400 million in just the first full 24 hours in stores.
Amazon.com is offering an ultra low sale price HERE
This shatters the previous record set by Call of Duty: Black Ops, which ripped $360 million from fans pockets. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare brought in a measly $310 million on it’s first day.
The latest version Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 went on sale on Tuesday November 8th at midnight across North America and the U.K, and was obviously helped by a big tv commercial marketing push along with many online retailers such as Best Buy offering pre-orders on the game.
Activision Blizzard Inc, the company that makes the Call of Duty games said they sold a whopping 6.4 million units in it’s first day of sales. This made Activision Blizzards Call of Duty franchise the clear winner versus competitor Electronic Arts who’s similar first person shooter game Battlefield 3 sold 5 million units in it’s first WEEK last month.
Clearly, shooter games are in high demand, and with Christmas shopping season fast approaching, sales should continue to be brisk for a few more months, bringing some much needed Christmas cheer to retailers like GameStop, Best Buy and even Amazon.com.
Apparently investors are not impressed yet, or don’t thing one game like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is enough to lift a company’s fortune, as Activision Blizzard shares have traded down slightly all week.
