NCAA March Madness Upset—Duke Goes Down to Lehigh
In the south division Duke, the number two seed, was defeated by the number fifteen seed Lehigh last night. Lehigh has scored one the greatest upsets in the March Madness tournament on the way to being in the final four. They beat Duke with a score of seventy-five to seventy. They are second number fifteen seed to win in this tournament. Another second seed in the west division, Norfolk St knocked off second seed Missouri with a score of eighty-six to eighty-four.
The game between Duke and Lehigh took place in the Greensboro Coliseum in front a crowd that was half filled with fans of the North Carolina Tar Heels, who had won their game earlier in the day. These fans were rooting for Lehigh to pull off the upset even though they would not be playing the winner of the game.
Lehigh usually plays the game with scrappy play, hot shooting, and fortunate bounces to win their games but when they played Duke, they became the aggressor, rattling Duke and managing to get inside the heads of the players. They took this game seriously and were playing more confident and physically. This was not something that Duke was not expecting from Lehigh.
When the game started, Duke appeared to be surprised by the new attitude of the Lehigh team and midway Duke looked a little intimidated. By the end Duke just looked helpless. Lehigh’s next game is on March 18th at 7:40 p.m. against number ten seed Xavier. Xavier had beat number seven seed Notre Dame sixty-seven to sixty-three. The game between Lehigh and Xavier should be a good game to watch.
