1 Dead and 6 Hospitalized After Sacramento Crash Involving Reportedly Stolen Vehicle

Authorities say that an 18-year-old woman died and six other people were taken to the hospital after a crash Thursday afternoon in the Valley Hi / North Laguna neighborhood of Sacramento that involved a car that was thought to have been stolen.

Around 4:30 p.m., near Franklin Boulevard and Calvine Road, a car and a pickup truck got into a crash.

The Cosumnes Community Service District Fire Department said in a post on social media that firefighters got seven people out of the two cars. All seven people inside were taken to hospitals, where one woman was declared dead.

Officer Cristina Gonzalez, a spokesperson for the Elk Grove Police Department, said that the trouble started when a car that had been reported stolen was seen driving north in heavy traffic on Franklin Boulevard near Laguna Boulevard. The car was in the northbound lane.

The patrol officer never started a chase or turned on her lights or sirens, but Gonzalez said that the stolen car “took off” when its driver saw the police car.

The car then crashed in Sacramento, where the Sacramento Police Department works, Gonzalez said.

In the two-car crash, an 18-year-old woman died from her injuries. She was named Demetrianna Duncan by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

The crash is being looked into by the Sacramento Police Department. No other information was released right away.
