On Saturday morning, the body of 11-year-old Alfa Barrie, who vanished last week together with another kid, was discovered in the Hudson River.
Around seven in the morning, a crew from the NYPD Harbor Unit located the body in the water close to 102nd Street and Riverside Drive.
You know, it’s really heartbreaking. Ahmadou Diallo, Alfa’s uncle, said, “And the youngster was extremely close to the family, and at this point, it’s simply horrific.
As he described how he received the call early on Saturday morning and went straight to the police station, Diallo maintained his composure. Diallo recognized his nephew from the body image the detectives had shown him.
He usually gave Mommy a kiss before he left the house and was very good, inquisitive, affectionate, and charming, the man recalled.
The disappearance of Alfa and his friend, 13-year-old Garrett Warren, after school last week set off a nightmare for two families.

According to the police, they were last captured on camera together on May 12 at 145th Street and Lennox Avenue. On Thursday, Garrett’s body was discovered in the Harlem River. Police claim that there were no traces of trauma on his body, and they do not suspect any wrongdoing.
“Two families are losing their children, their little ones, at the same time, so we are all experiencing the same thing. It’s very depressing,” Diallo said.
Alfa, the youngest of six children, was praised for being friendly and helpful.
When mom is cooking, always help her with the dishes and laundry, Diallo advised.
Democracy Prep Public School was where he studied. The following statement was made public by the school:
“We are devastated to learn that Alfa Ousmane Barrie is no longer with us. Our hearts go out to his families and friends, and the community that is grieving for him. Alfa was a 6th grader at Democracy Prep Harlem Middle School, where he stood out as a funny, bright, witty, inquisitive and brave child. He will be sorely missed by his teachers and fellow students. We also stand in solidarity with the family of Alfa’s friend, Garrett Warren. While he was not a student, we understand that this is a difficult time for his community as well and share our prayers with them.”
How did these two boys wind up in the sea in the first place? is a major concern for the families of these two boys as they grieve.
“Right now, we require clarity and resolution. We discovered the body, but we’re curious as to how they ended up in the river and what caused it. What transpired—were they forced inside, or what? We must understand,” Diallo remarked.

On Saturday night, the neighborhood flocked to a nearby mosque to offer their respects and pray with the family.

Ibrahim Diallo, Alfa’s older brother, recalled that during their previous chat, Alfa was working on a Mother’s Day gift that he was unable to complete.
Ibrahim Diallo said, “He wanted to show his mom how much he loves everything she does for him and his brothers.
The youngster desired to become an engineer so that he could assist others.
Ibrahim Diallo declared, “I’m not only going to be able to help myself, but I’m gonna be able to help others and the people in my community.”

An interfaith prayer ceremony has been scheduled for Monday while Alfa’s family awaits the cause of death’s disclosure. According to them, the funeral won’t take place until his father can travel from West Africa.
