A girl who was 11 years old was shot in a park, and a boy who was 15 was also hurt in a shooting.
They were each shot in the leg around 3 p.m. on Monday in a private area of Wolverhampton called Bushbury.
Police said that the boy was hit on Shelley Road and the girl was hurt in a park nearby.
Both are in good health at the hospital.
Officers think that a black Mini and a green Ford Focus were in a car chase in the area right after the shots were fired. The Mini was later found dumped on Third Avenue.
The car has been taken and will be looked at by a forensics team.
West Midlands Police said in a statement that officers are going from house to house to talk to people and that CCTV video is being retrieved and looked at.
“The scene is still cordoned off today (Tuesday), and our teams are doing more checks in the area as forensic tests continue.
“Our officers are also talking to partners in nearby schools because we know how upsetting an incident like this can be.
“We know it’s shocking, especially since it happened in a residential area, and it’s our top goal to find out what happened and who’s to blame.”
“We’d like to ask anyone who was in the Bushbury area yesterday afternoon to check their dashcam and doorbell footage, as it may help us with our ongoing investigations.”
Anyone who knows something is asked to get in touch with the police online or by calling 101.
