12-year-old Shoots Sonic Worker in North Texas

A 12-year-old and a 20-year-old are both being charged with murder after a customer shot and killed a restaurant worker in Keene on Saturday night.

Outside the Sonic Drive-In on Old Betsy Road in Keene, there are now flowers and a cross. It’s a growing tribute to Matthew Davis, a 32-year-old worker, and father who was shot and killed on the job Saturday night.

Keene Police said in a statement that the killing happened around 9:40 p.m. on Saturday. Keene Police Chief James Kidd said that Davis addressed a customer, Angel Gomez, 20, for urinating in the parking lot at that time.

Kidd said that when the fight got physical, a 12-year-old boy who was in Gomez’s car took out an assault gun and fired six shots at Davis.

Davis was hit several times. An air aid took him to a nearby hospital, but he did not make it.

The tweet below verifies the news:

Gomez and the child ran away at first, but they were caught later that night. Police said that when Gomez went back to the restaurant, the 12-year-old was caught in Rio Vista.

The 12-year-old’s name is not being given out because he is a child. He and Gomez are both accused of murder.

Monday, while people stopped by to leave flowers, the diner stayed closed. Jane Baggett, who lives in the area, said she felt like she had to do something.

“I wish there was more we could do, but for now, it would be enough if they could just see how much support and love there is, and maybe, even if we didn’t know him, they could see that his life was important to many of us,” Baggett said.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family of Davis pay for his funeral and take care of his 10-year-old son.
