Two people were killed and one was critically injured in a shooting that occurred in Seattle, Washington, on Saturday night, according to the police.

Around 10:30 p.m. local time, the incident happened at Cal Anderson Park in Seattle’s Capitol Hill district.

One person passed away right there, while another had to be taken to Harborview Medical Center before they could be declared dead. According to The Seattle Times, Seattle Police Chief Adrian Diaz said at a news conference that a third individual was also sent to the hospital with serious injuries.

According to Diaz, police are looking for a person who may have been “associated” with the shooting. Police are requesting local video evidence.

Many people are out here trying to enjoy their night, but then things like this happen, added Diaz. “People pick up guns far too quickly.”

A different shooting took place at a petrol station in Seattle’s Licton Springs area two days prior to the shooter opening fire on Saturday night. Three persons were hurt in the incident on Friday about one in the morning.

The shootings take place after Democrat Washington Gov. Jay Inslee signed a gun control bill on Tuesday that aims to lower gun violence in the state. One law outright prohibits the creation, acquisition, or importing of supposedly “assault weapons.”

“No one needs an AR-15 to protect your family,” Inslee said at a news conference after signing the bills. “You only need it to kill other families.”

A ban on “assault weapons” was enacted by Washington, making it the tenth state to do so.
