Police Report That 2 Louisiana Officers Perished in a Helicopter Crash

According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, two local police officers were killed in a helicopter crash on Sunday in West Baton Rouge Parish.

“The incident is currently being investigated by multiple law enforcement agencies, as well as other entities that regulate aviation and airspace travel,” the Baton Rouge Police Department said.

A cane field on North Winterville Road, not far from U.S. Highway 190, is where the BRPD helicopter reportedly crashed, according to authorities. The chopper took off at 2:26 a.m. from Baton Rouge Metro Airport and was scheduled to land at 3:38 a.m. at Omni Airport.

After the pilots failed to return home for lunch, the helicopter was located at about 11:30 a.m., according to WBRZ, an ABC affiliate in the area. According to WBRZ’s sources, the collision happened when the helicopter was chasing a car that had evaded police.
