Fourteen tornadoes were reported in northern Illinois and northern Indiana on Friday due to the strong storms, the National Weather Service reported on Sunday. An EF-0 tornado touched down in Montgomery and Aurora, and another EF-0 tornado touched down near Plainfield, according to a tweet from the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service first identified two tornadoes on Saturday afternoon, one near Baileyville in Ogle County and another near Caledonia, about 15 miles northeast of Rockford, based on damage surveys and reports from storm spotters.

Later that night, the Chicago NWS office updated its Twitter followers on its investigation, reporting that 12 tornadoes had hit parts of the office’s service area.

As of late Saturday, the following tornadoes have been confirmed, along with their estimated EF ratings:

EF-2 near Amboy
EF-1 West Brooklyn
Near Baileyville (rating TBD)
EF-1 Machesney Park
EF-1 Davis Junction to Belvidere
Caledonia/Poplar Grove (rating TBD)
EF-1 near Wellington
EF-1 near Stockland
EF-1 Lombard to Addison
EF-2 near Oxford
EF-2 near Fowler, Indiana
EF-1 near Remington, Indiana

The NWS warned that the ratings could shift and that it would look into damage reports from places including Merrillville, Indiana, Batavia, Plainfield, Plano-Montgomery, Frankfort-Park Forest, Minooka-Channahon, and others during the next few days.

Several areas of potential tornado damage have yet to be investigated closely, though we should have some more info available after we conduct additional damage surveys today and tomorrow,” the agency said Sunday.

One person was killed by a tornado-related theater collapse in Belvidere on Friday, while three more were killed by separate storms in Crawford County.
