During a traffic stop north of the village of Cameron on Saturday afternoon, two police officers were shot and killed.
A press release from the Wisconsin Department of Justice says that the shooting happened around 3:38 p.m. when an officer from the Chetek Police Department stopped a car.

According to the press release, the officers and the driver fired their guns at each other at some point. At the scene, both the Chetek officer and the Cameron officer were said to be dead. The driver was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

The Names of the Officers Are Not Revealed Yet
The names of the officers and the person who was shot have not been made public yet, and the details of what happened are still being looked into. The DOJ hasn’t answered questions about the incident.
The Division of Criminal Investigation is looking into what happened and will give a report to the Barron County district attorney when they are done, the release said.
“I’m very sad about the deaths of two police officers today. In a tweet, late Saturday, Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul said, “Their families and the Chetek and Cameron Police Departments are in my thoughts during this terrible time.”
The Barron County Sheriff’s Office wrote on Facebook, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Cameron and Chetek Police Departments.”
The Marinette County Deputy Sheriff’s Association also wrote on Facebook, “Tonight, our hearts are heavy as we send our thoughts and prayers to the Village of Cameron Police Department, the City of Chetek Police Department, the Barron County community, and the families (both blood and blue) of the two officers who died today in the line of duty.”
