3 Dead, Multiple Injured After Tornado Hits Parts of Bollinger County

The early morning tornado claimed three lives and left dozens more injured. Emergency Management Agency Director for Cape Girardeau County, Mark Winkler, has confirmed the deaths of three people in Bollinger County. Widespread destruction was left in its wake by the confirmed tornado.

He assured the public that efforts were being made to clear roads and locate any missing people. Crews will re-search previously searched areas after a front passes through on Wednesday afternoon, he said. Winkler requested that the area be avoided for sightseeing purposes. Donations are also being declined at this time.

He requested that everyone wait for further instructions. Paducah’s National Weather Service says a survey team is out taking stock of the damage and will have more details by Wednesday evening. On Wednesday, April 5 at around 4:00 a.m., the tornado reportedly made landfall in Missouri, per reports from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The exact number of casualties is unknown at this time. According to MSHP, the tornado made landfall along Highway 34, north of Marble Hill on Highway 51, near Grassy. Search teams are combing through the rubble to make sure everyone is safe. When a tornado blew through, Sheoby Davidson and some friends took shelter in a bathtub.

Glenallen and Grassy have had roads blocked and structures damaged, according to Bollinger County Sheriff Casey Graham. MSHP and other law enforcement agencies have arrived. Sheriff Graham has issued a warning to the public to stay away from the area until further notice.

Marble Hill’s Woodland High School has been transformed into a command center. After the storm had passed through Glenallen, there was a pungent gas odor near the intersection of Highway ZZ and Highway 34. There may be a gas leak at the M and G substation, according to MSHP. Crews were able to resolve the problem.

Highway M in Scopus, not far from Diana’s House, was littered with building materials. In addition, hundreds of people have reported losing power. A trained spotter reported seeing a tornado on the ground shortly after 3:30 a.m., and the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Bollinger County between 3:30 and 4 a.m.
