3 Killed And 2 Injured In Scaffolding Collapse At Building Site In Dilworth

According to Charlotte Fire, three construction workers died in Dilworth after falling 70 feet from a fallen scaffold.

According to firefighters, it happened on Monday shortly after 9 a.m. at a construction site on East Morehead Street close to Euclid Avenue.

According to Charlotte Fire Capt. Jackie Gilmore, when firefighters arrived, they discovered collapsed scaffolding as well as workers who had fallen from the scaffolding. Three of the employees passed away there, according to Gilmore.

He said that the workers had dropped roughly 70 feet.

Two more construction workers were transported to the hospital, according to paramedics, but neither sustained significant injuries.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are both looking into the incident, according to Capt. Gilmore.

Chopper 9 Skyzoom flew over the scaffolding after the accident, which was visible hanging at an angle. The crumbled platform was next to a structure. Directly below was what appeared to be scaffolding on the ground, with pieces of wood strewn about it.

Numerous first responders, including Charlotte Fire and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, were en route to the scene to conduct an investigation. Additionally, a CMPD crime scene investigation truck was still present.

Hannah Goetz, a reporter for Channel 9, observed several construction workers nearby who were leaving their jobsites. All building has reportedly been put on hold until the investigation is finished, according to Capt. Gilmore.

One employee told Genevieve Curtis of Channel 9 that they were doing “as well as we can be.” Another worker revealed off-camera that he had only started working there last week and knew the three colleagues who died. The staff, according to him, is like a large family.

The scaffolding’s landing site will eventually house apartments. Hanover RS East Construction, LLC is identified as the general contractor on a building permit application. When Goetz dialed the number on the permit, the person who answered stated she had nothing further to add.
