The CHP has verified to ABC7 that two people were killed in a wrong-way collision in the South Bay on Sunday. The fatal wreck occurred at 4 a.m. on Highway 237 in Sunnyvale, not far from Matilda Avenue. The California Highway Patrol reported that a silver 2021 Honda Civic was traveling east in the westbound lanes when it collided with a red 2017 Honda Civic.

The CHP reports that both drivers died in the crash. There were only the two of us in each car. There was a 30-minute period where no westbound lanes were available. The wrong-way motorist was a Hispanic male in his twenties or thirties, and he was never found.

The other driver was also a man, and he was White. He was in his late twenties or early thirties. We don’t know if drugs or alcohol were a factor.

OAKLAND: Non-Lethal

The CHP reports that on Sunday morning, a wrong-way driver traveling east on westbound I-580 at Oakland’s Seminary Avenue off-ramp caused a collision that forced the shutdown of all westbound lanes.

At before 7 a.m., witnesses called the California Highway Patrol to report a Ford F-150 pickup truck traveling in the wrong direction and attempting to collide with other vehicles. After colliding with a City of Oakland-owned Ford F-250, the F-150 triggered a SIG alert and road closure.

Officer Karina Oseguera, a spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol, said that the driver of the F-150 sustained significant injuries and that the driver of the F-250 sustained minor injuries. Oseguera reported that all lanes had reopened to traffic around 8:30 a.m.

Marin

A 22-year-old Santa Rosa resident was involved in an early Saturday morning collision in Marin. The wrong-way driver was reportedly pronounced deceased at the scene. Trey King, 30, also of Novato, who was driving the other vehicle, was seriously injured and sent to the hospital.

Woodside

A white Ford sedan collided head-on with a black BMW SUV on Saturday afternoon as it was traveling north in the southbound lanes of Interstate 280 near Woodside. It occurred around 2:30 in the afternoon. The CHP reported that the BMW’s 54-year-old female driver, a resident of San Francisco, was pronounced deceased at the site.

Her identity remains concealed. Police said a 14-year-old boy riding as a passenger in the BMW sustained serious injuries and was transferred to Stanford Hospital. No one knows what his name is.

Constellatia A. Martin, 24, of Campbell was driving the Ford when she was pulled over and sent to Stanford Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police have said they do not know if drugs or alcohol played a role.
