A 6-year-old girl was shot during a “violent road rage incident” in south Louisville on Monday night, and Louisville Metro Police are looking into what happened.

Major Mindy Vance of the LMPD said that police were called to Norton Children’s Hospital at 8:22 p.m. because a child had been shot.

Police said the child was shot during a road rage incident that started near Interstate 65 North and the Outer Loop.

Vance said that “people in a vehicle” got into an “altercation” with a group of three motorcyclists on I-65 North, where shots were fired. The car and the motorcycles continued down the highway, where another altercation happened on the off-ramp to University Boulevard. More shots were fired at the car, which took more than one hit. Vance said that a 6-year-old girl was also hurt in the car.

Vance said that the car’s driver got back on the highway and took the child to Norton Children’s Hospital, where she is having surgery.

Vance said that everyone involved was being held and questioned. At this point, the cops think that all of the gunfire came from the motorcycles.

The tweet below verifies the news:

Vance said, “This was a senseless act of violence that has a terrible effect on a young child. The behavior is awful and can’t be explained.”

The Non-Fatal Shooting Squad of the LMPD is looking into it.

“At the end of the day, a young child was shot here because of a road rage episode. This is a total waste of time and needs to stop. I mean, this makes no sense at all. I’m so glad more people were not hurt or involved,” Vance said.
