Authorities in the town of Farmington, New Mexico say a high school student, 18, k!lled three people on Monday by randomly sh*oting at homes and passing vehicles in his neighborhood. Among the dead were a 98-year-old woman and her 73-year-old daughter.

At a press conference on Tuesday, police revealed that Beau Wilson k!lled nine individuals on Monday morning before being shot dead by four Farmington police officers. Authorities said that Gwendolyn Schofield, 98, and her daughter Melody Ivie, 73, were shot and k!lled in their car, and that Shirley Volta, 79, who was also injured in a car, later d!ed at the hospital.

Sgt. Rachel Discenza of the Farmington Police Department and New Mexico State Police Officer Andreas Stamatiadas were both shot during the ensuing gun battle. Farmington Deputy Chief Baric Crum said that four more injured victims who were hospitalized have already been released.

“The amount of violence and brutality that these innocent people faced is something that is unconscionable to me. And I don’t care what age you are. I don’t care what else is going on in your life. To k!ll three innocent elderly women that were just absolutely in no position to defend themselves is always going to be a tragedy,” Farmington Deputy Chief Kyle Dowdy said Tuesday.

Dowdy stated that the motivation for the sh*oting is still being investigated. It was unclear whether Wilson had been diagnosed with any mental health issues, but interviews with his family showed that they were worried about him. The deputy chief stated that the sh*oter had “minor infractions” as a juvenile and was therefore not known to authorities.

Dowdy stated that the sh*oter turned eighteen in the month of October 2022, and that the following month, he purchased one of the three f!rearms used in the attack. Police believe the other f!rearms were legally held by a family member, and the deputy chief said they are looking into how the sh*oter obtained them.

One of the we@pons was an assault-style rifle, which has been used in several recent high-profile mass sh*otings in the United States. These include the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in 2012 and the Uvalde, Texas, sh*oting, which occurred about a year ago and resulted in the deaths of 19 students and two instructors.

Having been “shaken to the core by an unthinkable incident that robbed families of loved ones,” as Mayor Nate Duckett put it, Farmington was devastated by the att@ck. It is the most recent city in the United States to be hit by the epidemic of gun violence, which has already claimed 225 lives in the first 20 weeks of 2018.

Police Chief Steve Hebbe said in a video statement released Monday night that the sh*oter wandered around the neighborhood in this business area near the Four Corners in the Southwest and “randomly fired at whatever entered his head to shoot at” before being fatally sh*t by police.

“There were no schools, no churches, no individuals targeted,” he said. According to Dowdy, authorities have found no connection between the shooter and the victims, but they do know that the gunman was staying at a local home.

Investigators are trying to piece together what happened at the “wide and complex scene” that stretches for more than a quarter of a mile, where more than 150 shell casings were found. None of the victims were home when the gunman opened fire on three cars and six houses.

According to Dowdy, police are still combing the site for clues, and it’s unknown how many rounds the shooter really unleashed. Discenza, a 10-year veteran of the force and a patrol sergeant, was sh*t in the pelvis region while wearing body armor, according to authorities.

According to the chief, Stamatiadas was sh*t while on the way to the site, but he drove himself to the hospital. Both have apparently been discharged from the hospital, according to the mayor. Five persons needed medical attention for minor injuries, such as wounds from broken glass, sustained at the scene.

Doorbell cameras captured the initial moments of gunfire at 10:56 a.m. MT, and police later reported receiving “hundreds” of calls reporting an active sh*oter. The police arrived one minute later, with three officers responding without body armor despite being on their way to lunch.

According to Dowdy, the cops arrived at the scene at 11:02 and shot and k!lled the gunman four minutes later. According to reports, only officers from Farmington fired their we@pons at the suspect, who was hit by 16 bullets.

Wilson was a senior at Farmington High School, and his graduation was scheduled for Tuesday night. Wednesday should bring another press conference from the authorities.
