Abilene Residence Sustains $20k in Damages After Saturday Morning Fire

The Abilene Fire Department responded to a structure fire at a residential building in the 1400 block of Orange St. at around one in the morning on Saturday.

An occupant of the building noticed smoke inside and called 9-1-1, according to a press statement from the AFD.

When AFD crews arrived, they saw a bedroom window spewing flames and thick smoke. Although the fire was put out and contained, the building still suffered serious damage.

Seven people were inside the building, but all were able to leave without getting hurt.

There were numerous dogs and cats within the building, but they were all saved and found.

The inhabitants received support from the American Red Cross.

Investigations are being conducted to determine the fire’s origin.

A $20,000 damage estimate has been made.
