A shooting on a South Carolina beach that hurt six people has led to the arrest of a teen and a child.
On Friday night, shots were fired after a large group of seniors had gathered at a beach on Isle of Palms for “senior skip day,” an annual event where seniors skip classes.
ABC News said on Saturday that Shawn Alexander Goods-Martin, who is 18 years old, was arrested and charged with illegally carrying a weapon. Another person was also taken to a juvenile detention center, but his name was not made public because he is a minor.
Videos of the event that were quickly shared on social media showed hundreds of people running away from the beach.
WCIV says that the six people who were hurt were taken to the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Few Arrests Have Already Been Made
Authorities had already arrested a few people for having weapons, but they couldn’t tell if those guns were used in the shooting. No one knows for sure if Mr. Goods-Martin used the gun he was carrying.
WCBD said that both teenagers and adults were killed.
“IOP PD went to the beach behind Sea Cabins where someone had been shot. “Four people were shot and taken to MUSC with injuries that were not life-threatening,” the local police said in a tweet on Friday.
“More than one law enforcement agency is there to help with the investigation. Still looking into it.”
Later, law enforcement said, “Update: IOPPD has arrested a number of people. Still looking into whether or not they had anything to do with the shooting.”
According to The Post and Courier, the shooting happened near a pier near a strip of popular bars and restaurants.
A tip line has been set up by the Isle of Palms police department for anyone with information about the shooting.
