The National Transportation Safety Board reported that an airline employee perished after being “ingested” into a plane’s engine.
According to the NTSB statement, the incident happened on New Year’s Eve at Montgomery Regional Airport in Alabama at about 3 p.m.
It also stated that while the aircraft was at the gate with the parking brake engaged, a member of the ground crew was “ingested into the engine.”
The Envoy Air flight was parked earlier than expected and was bound for Dallas, Texas.
Although the victim’s identity has not been made public, it is assumed they were a staff member of Piedmont Airlines, an American Airlines affiliate.

According to a representative for the airport, “Today approximately 3 pm, an American Airlines ground crew, Piedmont employee was engaged in a fatality.” “At this time, no additional information is available. Our thoughts and prayers are with the deceased’s family.
In a statement, airport executive director Wade Davis expressed his sadness after learning of the unfortunate death of an AA/Piedmont Airlines staff member.
After the strange accident, the airport was immediately closed for many hours.
Normal operations did, however, resume at 8:30 p.m., according to a tweet from the airport, and an FAA investigation into the event is still ongoing.
American Airlines released a statement saying, “We are grieved by an accident involving a team member of Piedmont Airlines, an American Airlines regional airline, at Montgomery Regional Airport (MGM).”
“Our prayers are with the family and our local team members,” the corporation continued. Our primary concern is making sure that everyone concerned has the support they require during this trying time.
On Monday, the FAA will submit its initial report and provide more details about the event.
Support will be given to the victim’s friends, family, and coworkers by a Piedmont Airlines care team.
