American Tourist Killed in Brutal Attack Near Germany’s Neuschwanstein Castle

Police in Bavaria, Germany, say that a 21-year-old American lady died after being assaulted and shoved down a slope by an American male near Neuschwanstein Castle, one of Germany’s most renowned tourist attractions.

According to a statement released by Bavarian police on Thursday, the woman died from her injuries sometime during the night. Wednesday, the victim and her hiking companion, a 22-year-old American lady, were in the area of the historic “Marienbrücke,” which is noted for its views of the Neuschwanstein Castle.

According to the authorities, the two women ran into a 30-year-old American male who convinced them to follow him down a secret track to a lookout. Thomas Hoermann, a spokesman for the prosecutor’s office in the Bavarian town of Kempten, told CNN that both ladies were American tourists and that the man had been unknown to them.

After walking down the trail with the women, the man allegedly “physically attacked” the 21-year-old. After the 22-year-old woman stepped in to help her buddy, the man choked her and shoved her down a steep slope.

Police say that on Wednesday afternoon, the mountain rescue team from Füssen successfully rescued the two women. The 21-year-old was taken by helicopter to the hospital, but she did not survive her injuries.

When rescuers located her friend, he or she was able to communicate with them, and both were transferred to the hospital. On Thursday, a spokeswoman for the United States Embassy in Germany told CNN that the embassy is “aware of an incident involving multiple individuals in Germany.”
