Son of Former Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker Arrested for Drunken Driving

Andrew Baker, the son of former Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker, was stopped for driving drunk in Lynnfield on Saturday night.

State police spokesman David Procopio said in a statement on Sunday that Andrew Baker, who lives in South Boston and is 29 years old, was charged with DUI. Baker was taken to the Danvers barracks by state police after he was arrested. There, he was booked and later let go on his own recognizance and $40 bail.

The tweet below confirms the news:

At about 8:15 p.m. on Friday, a state trooper went to I-95 south near Walnut Street in Lynnfield, where Peabody Police officers had stopped a Volkswagen Jetta after following it onto the highway from Route 114, Procopio said.

Procopio said that Peabody police found the Jetta and followed it after another driver said the car was being driven strangely.

Peabody police officers at the scene told the trooper that the male driver, later named Andrew Baker, showed signs of being drunk. Baker was out of the car when the trooper arrived.

Procopio said that the officer “also saw signs of intoxication” when he talked to the driver.

Then, the state cops gave the driver a number of field sobriety tests.

“The Trooper thought the driver was drunk based on the results of those tests, what he saw and heard from the driver, and what the driver said,” Procopio said.

State police said that Andrew Baker will be tried in Peabody District Court at a later date.

Andrew Baker, who goes by the name “A.J.,” was accused of sexually assaulting a woman on a JetBlue trip from Washington, D.C. to Boston in June 2018. This happened while his father was governor. The case was never brought to court.
