Arrest Made in Killing of Woman Found Dead Along a Hiking Trail in Phoenix

Police say they have found the person who killed a woman whose body was found on a hiking trail in Phoenix after she had been attacked.

Sgt. Melissa Soliz of the Phoenix Police Department said that a guy in his 20s was arrested Thursday night, but she didn’t say his name or give any other information.

Lauren Heike, who was 29 years old, was found dead along a desert hiking track in northeast Phoenix less than a week before the arrest.

Phoenix Police Homicide Lt. James Hester said at a news conference on Wednesday that Heike was hiking on Friday morning when she was attacked from behind and killed. He didn’t say anything about Heike’s injuries or what caused her death.

Police said that her body was found early Saturday morning in the 6500 block of East Libby Street.

At the news gathering on Wednesday, Heike’s mother said that her daughter was “beautiful inside and out.”

The tweet below confirms the news:

Lana Heike said, “She had such a kind heart that everyone who met her liked her.”

Soliz said that the man who was caught is the same person who was seen running in a short surveillance clip that was made public during the probe.

People said that the man in the video was between 5’8″ and 6′ tall. He wore dark clothes and had a bag on.
