San Mateo, California – A shocking incident unfolded in San Mateo as authorities arrested a 39-year-old California man, Mark Merchikoff, on suspicion of homicide.
He is accused of fatally stabbing a woman and then posting a video of the heinous act on Facebook, according to San Mateo police.
The investigation was triggered by a report from someone in Nye County, Nevada, who had seen the disturbing video and promptly alerted the local authorities. The tip provided crucial information, including the name and phone number of the individual responsible for posting the video, leading the police to the San Francisco Bay Area city.
After an intense search that spanned nearly three hours, officers discovered the lifeless body of a woman in an apartment unit within a large apartment complex. The victim’s identity has not been disclosed, and the authorities are currently investigating the motive behind the brutal attack.
Police revealed that Mark Merchikoff was acquainted with the victim, but further details about their relationship remain undisclosed at this time.
The chilling revelation that Merchikoff allegedly filmed the victim’s final moments and shared the video on Facebook sent shockwaves through the community. Following the incident, he fled the area, prompting a search that eventually led to his arrest in San Jose, approximately 20 miles southeast of San Mateo.

San Mateo police spokesman, Jerami Surratt, described the content of the video as “pretty hideous,” leaving investigators and the public deeply disturbed by the callous act.
