When she died in New York last August, the South African rising star was only 32 years old and just starting out in her career. She also played a role on The CW’s Black Lightning. Let’s have a look at Charlbi Dean Cause of Death.
Who Was Charlbi Dean?
Charlbi Dean Kriek was an actress and model from South Africa. She was best known for her roles in the Spud movies (2010–2013), the superhero drama series Black Lightning (2018–), and the Palme d’Or-winning dark comedy Triangle of Sadness (2022).
Dean was born and raised in South Africa’s Cape Town. Sportskeeda says she started modeling when she was six years old and did commercials when she was a young girl.
The Guardian says that she signed her first contract to be a model when she was only 12 years old. In 2010, she made her first appearance on screen in the South African movie Spud, which also starred Troye Sivan.
Dean made a name for herself in the entertainment business. She is best known for playing Syonide, a recurring character on The CW show Black Lightning.
She had just been in the satirical black comedy Triangle of Sadness when she died. In May 2022, the film won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
Ruben Ostlund, a director, said of Dean in a tribute to her that she had “a care and sensitivity that lifted her colleagues and the whole film crew.” She has also been in Death Race 3: Inferno, Blood in the Water, Don’t Sleep, and Porthole.

Charlbi Dean Cause of Death
A spokesperson for the New York City Medical Examiner has said what caused South African actress and model Charlbi Dean to die. Dean was in the movie Triangle of Sadness, which was directed by Ruben Ostlund. She died suddenly and out of the blue in New York City on August 29, 2022. She was 32 years old.
People magazine says that the actress Charlbi Dean Kriek died of bacterial sepsis after being exposed to the Capnocytophaga bacteria. She was more likely to get sick because, after a car accident in Cape Town in 2009, her spleen had to be taken out.
Dean was about to have a big break in her career when she died. She had just finished starring with Harris Dickinson in Triangle of Sadness, a dark comedy by Ruben Ostlund. In the movie, she played the model Yaya. It was shown for the first time at the Cannes Film Festival in May, and Ostlund won the Palme d’Or for the second time in a row.
Ostlund wrote on Instagram right after Charlbi’s death, “Her sudden death is a shock and a tragedy.” “It’s a pleasure to have met and worked with her. Charlbi was kind and caring, which made her coworkers and the whole film crew feel better. Saddens me a lot to think that she won’t be with us in the future. At this hard time, my thoughts are with her friends and family, as well as her fiance Luke.”
