Convicted Killer Smiles in Prison Video Call With Family During Conviction Appeal

Scott Peterson, a 50-year-old convicted murderer who was accused of killing his wife Laci Peterson and their unborn child Conner in 2002, was recently seen smiling from ear to ear in a rare shot from a prison video call with his family.

The latest picture was taken after Peterson, who is accused of killing Laci and Conner in 2004, filed a new appeal against his 2004 conviction. Fox News took a picture of the video call on May 22, 2022, and gave it to the public.

During the conference call from jail, Peterson can be seen smiling big while talking to his family. The newspaper said that he was on a call with his father, Lee Peterson, his brother Joe, his sister-in-law Janey, his sister Susan, and her husband, Ed Caudillo.

Janey told Fox News that Peterson was sitting in a cell wearing a gray shirt and jail uniform, but the virtual background made it look like he was sitting by a window. Even though they wanted to talk to Peterson once a week, his family said that jail rules only let them talk to him on video once or twice a month.

Scott Peterson Asked the Court to Find Him Guilty

Peterson was caught on April 18, 2003, because of the strange deaths of his wife and their unborn child on Christmas Eve, 2002. He was found guilty of first-degree murder with special circumstances for killing Laci, who was almost eight months pregnant at the time of her death, and second-degree murder for killing their unborn child.

The tweet below confirms the news:

Peterson was first ordered to die by lethal injection, but he was taken off death row in October 2022 because of claims that jurors were biased when he was convicted almost 20 years ago.

Peterson has been in prison for 19 years, but he just recently chose to fight his conviction. Fox News said that he sent a new, 800-page plea for habeas corpus to a California court of appeals. The petition said that Peterson’s family had found new evidence that could show his innocence, but the document has not been made public.

The source says that it was made on April 19. Peterson’s death sentence was overturned by the California Supreme Court in August 2020, and he was moved to Mule Creek State Prison east of Sacramento last year. Peterson was given the same term of life without parole, and he was not given a new trial.

We Will Keep Moving Forward Until He is Freed

In December 2022, Judge Anne-Christine Massullo decided that Peterson will spend the rest of his life in prison. This was after she denied Peterson’s request for a new trial based on the fact that he was found guilty in 2004 by a biased jury. Peterson’s lawyer said at the time that the decision was “disappointing” in a message to Fox News Digital.

“In the last few months, we’ve learned new things that show Scott Peterson didn’t kill his wife Laci. “We will keep pushing until he is freed,” the lawyer said.

“As for the decision, the judge admits that Juror #7 did something wrong, but he writes that her background, her tense relationship with her boyfriend, and the fact that she often forgets things are all reasons why she did what she did. We disagree with you,” he said.

Back in 2002, Peterson said that he had last seen his pregnant wife at their home on December 24, before he went to go fishing at Berkeley Marina. Peterson led the search for his wife for a few months, but when it came out that he was having an affair with a masseuse named Amber Frey, he was put under a lot of scrutiny.

In April 2003, Laci’s dead body and the fetus of their unborn child showed up on a beach in San Francisco. This led to his arrest. Peterson has kept saying he is innocent even though he has been in jail for almost 20 years for the murders.
