In Florida, a police officer shot an alligator to get the body of a 2-year-old boy back. The boy had been missing since his mother’s body was found the day before.
The Tampa Bay Times says that Taylen Mosley’s mother, Pashun Jeffery, was found dead in her apartment on March 30. The toddler was nowhere to be found.
On Friday, an officer near St. Petersburg, Florida’s Dell Holmes Park found an alligator with the missing child in its mouth.

The officer shot at the animal, which dropped the boy’s body afterward. He killed the alligator.
“My condolences go out to his family and friends,” said Chief of Police in St. Petersburg, Anthony Holloway.
“We’re so sorry that this is how it had to end,” he said.
Mr. Holloway said, “We didn’t want to find him this way.” “But at least we can give that family some peace of mind now.”
The police chief said that Taylen’s father, Thomas Mosley, will be arrested and charged with the first-degree murders of both Taylen and his mother.
Mr. Mosley stabbed Ms. Jeffery more than once, and on Wednesday night, he went to an area hospital with cuts on his arms and hands.
He was still in the hospital on Friday night, and the police chief said they would arrest him when he got out.
Holloway said, “Nothing in our investigation makes us think that he is a victim.”
The Pinellas-Pasco Medical Examiner’s Office will find out why the toddler died when they do the autopsy.
It is not clear if Taylen died before or after he went into the lake.
