Rep. Gerry Connolly, a Democrat from Virginia, stated that a man armed with a bat entered his Fairfax district office on Monday, injuring two employees. Connolly told CNN that the intruder who att@cked him and two of his staff members brought a metal bat into the office.

According to him, the assailant used the metal bat to strike a senior aide in the head. The assailant also struck an intern in the side on her first day of work.

Connolly issued a statement on Monday am saying that both staffers had been transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and that the guy had been apprehended by the City of Fairfax Police Department.

US Capitol Police have named the suspect as Fairfax resident and 49-year-old Xuan Kha Tran Pham, charging him with severe malicious injury and malicious wounding.

“Based on what we know right now, investigators do not have any information that the suspect was known to the USCP.” Pham’s father told CNN that his son had schizophrenia, and records show that he was once accused of att@cking a police officer before the case was dismissed.

The assailant, who is a resident of his area but whom Connolly claims he does not know, smashed glass in a conference room and damaged multiple computers before fleeing the scene. “He was filled with out-of-control rage,” Connolly said to CNN in a phone interview. Connolly revealed later on Monday that the individual had previously made contact with his office.

You may verify the story by looking at the tweet that is provided below:

“He had contacted our office, soliciting help on something, and my staff was helping him.” “But there is no indication today that the two were related at all. And my staff did sense in talking to him that he engaged in bizarre statements. Never threatening, however.”

The Virginia Democrat said he didn’t “think there’s a motivation” for the incident, adding: “I think we are talking about real mental illness.”
