On Tuesday night, a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man were killed in what Columbus police are calling a failed attempt to sell drugs.
At 8:50 p.m., police were called to the 900 block of Rarig Avenue and East 11th Avenue on the city’s East Side for a report of a shooting. When they got there, they found a crashed car.
Antonie Moss Jr., who was 19 and from South Linden, and Jeremy Heglar, who was 16 and from the East Side, were both shot inside that car. Moss was declared dead at the scene of the accident, and Heglar was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, but he died at 9:52 p.m. from his injuries.

Records from the Franklin County Municipal Court say that Cayon Drake, 18, of the Northeast Side, was caught and charged with murder after a 16-year-old girl who was also in the car but was not hurt and other witnesses gave them information.
According to court records, Heglar and the girl drove to a house on the 2900 block of East 10th Avenue on the East Side to buy drugs from Moss and Drake.
Drake and Moss walked around the back of Heglar’s car and got in the back seat. Moss and Drake both pulled guns and shot Heglar as the deal went on.
Court records show that Heglar was able to shoot back, killing Moss and hurting Drake. Drake was able to get out of the car and run to the back, where he fired several more shots and ran away.
Drake was taken into jail without any trouble on Tuesday night. He will probably go to court for the first time on Thursday.
Wednesday, Columbus City Schools said that neither Heglar nor Moss was a student in the district right now.
