In Newark on Thursday afternoon, there was an officer-involved gunshot that left one suspect dead and another in the hospital. Both police and spectators were unharmed.
Community safety cameras reportedly alerted the Newark Police Department to a carjacking suspect vehicle that entered Newark on Mowry Avenue.
The 39000 block of Cedar Boulevard was where the car was discovered.
The vehicle was stopped by officers from the Fremont Police Department, the Newark Police Department, and the Southern Alameda County Major Crimes Task Force.
No other information regarding the shooting has been made public.

“Officers immediately rendered aid and summoned emergency medical personnel, but the suspect did not survive,” police said in a message to the community. “A second suspect was transported to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A weapon was recovered on scene.”
With the cooperation of the Fremont Police Department, detectives from the Newark Police Department are looking into the situation.
The Professional Standards and Training Unit of the Newark Police Department and the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office are also conducting their own independent investigations.
