Antioch police reported that an 18-year-old lady was shot and murdered and six people were injured at a birthday party on Sunday. ntioch police say a 19-year-old was shot and killed just before 1 a.m. when unwanted guests crashed his birthday celebration at his home in the northern California city.
Police say that the gunfire caused panic among the partygoers, who scattered in all directions, some of them carrying gunshot wounds. According to reports, many of the victims drove themselves to nearby medical facilities.
The tragedy is one of several recent mass shootings at regular occasions, such as birthday parties, involving young people. Four individuals were killed and 28 others were injured when gunfire broke out at a Sweet 16 party in Alabama.
Several children were among the eight persons killed in a shooting at a mall in Texas. The Gun Violence Archive reports that there have been at least 290 mass shootings in the United States this year. More than 1.7 mass shootings occur daily, on average.

The organization, like CNN, considers shootings in which four or more persons (not including the perpetrator) are killed to be mass shootings. A big throng had gathered outside the house in Antioch by the time police arrived, along with the victims of the shooting.
Seven individuals were shot, including an 18-year-old lady who later died from her wounds in the hospital, as was later found by authorities. The authorities have not released her name at this time.
The other victims are between the ages of 18 and 20, and they all received non-fatal gunshot wounds, according to the police. The shooter or shooters, and whether or not they knew any of the victims, remain unknown.
