Georgia Father Shot and Killed While Returning Daughter's Backpack

After a three-day hearing, a Georgia woman was found guilty of killing the father of her 10-year-old daughter in July 2020.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office says that Joshua Kellam took his daughter back to Dawn Harmon’s house on July 31, 2020, after a month-long summer stay. The next day, Kellam noticed that he had left his travel bag with important legal and personal documents in his daughter’s suitcase and kept her book bag by mistake.

Kellam tried to get in touch with Harmon by sending him text messages and calling him. He also went to Harmon’s house alone and with the police to try to get the bag back. Harmon didn’t answer the texts, phone calls, or door knocks.

Kellam eventually went back to Harmon’s house that night, carrying his daughter’s backpack and his cell phone. When Kellam locked the door, Harmon’s husband, Jermaine, came out of the house with a.40 caliber Glock gun and shot him in the heart, killing him.

An officer talked to Harmon a few days later. He asked her if there was a file with important papers in the bag Kellam had brought back with his daughter.

The tweet below verifies the news:

Harmon said there were no legal papers in the bag. But on a tape of a call she made to her father a few hours before the shooting, Harmon laughed about Kellam wanting his bag back and told her father that it had important legal papers that belonged to Kellam in it.

Harmon didn’t say that he had shredded the file before a search request was carried out at his home until he was on trial.

Officials also say that Harmon didn’t tell the truth to her daughter and instead told her that a police officer shot her father.

Harmon was found to have lied and messed with proof, so he was found guilty. She was given a 15-year sentence, of which she had to serve 5 years in jail.

Jermaine was also found guilty of murder as a crime.
