Gun Stolen From Holster Kills 37-year-old Guy in Gas Station Line

A 37-year-old man was shot and killed after his gun was stolen from his holster at a Shell gas station while he was waiting in line to pay for a drink.

On March 30, Shannon Watkins went to the gas station in the 500 block of Flint River Road in Jonesboro to buy a drink, according to the police. Police told Channel 2 Action News that while Watkins was in line, a man came into the store, stood behind him, took the gun off Watkins’ hip, and ran out of the store.

The tweet below confirms the news:

Watkins ran after the suspect and tried to take the gun from him. During the fight over the gun, a second suspect got out of a car and began shooting at Watkins, hitting him more than once.

Police said that both of the suspects drove away in a white Chrysler 300.

Watkins was taken to a hospital nearby, but he later died there from his injuries.

Police were able to figure out that 18-year-old Chris Ervin Jr. was one of the suspects with help from the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office. Ervin was found by the county’s Elite Fugitive squad.

He was charged with felony murder, aggravated assault with the intent to kill, robbery by snatching, cruelty to children in the first degree, criminal damage in the first degree, firearms discharge near a highway, reckless conduct, and having a gun while committing a crime.

Police in Clayton is looking hard for the second suspect. The police are asking anyone who knows where the suspect is to call them.
