Hilltop Shooting Suspect Arrested After Wounding Wife, Killing Son

A 57-year-old man has been charged with murder and felony assault after he allegedly shot his wife and her son multiple times early Monday morning.

Alfred Davis Jr., from the Hilltop, was caught at the house next door to where the shooting was reported on the 200 block of South Eureka Avenue.

Monday morning at 3:45 a.m., a report of a shooting sent Columbus police to the house. When police arrived, both Joshua Farmer, who was 22 years old, and his mother, who was 47, had been shot.

The paramedics at the scene said that Farmer was dead. The woman was taken to the OhioHealth Grant Medical Center right away to get help. She is expected to get better from her wounds.

According to records from the Franklin County Municipal Court, the woman told police that her husband shot her son. She said that Davis had “kicked and hit” her before the shooting.

According to court records, Davis went to the next-door neighbor’s house with the handgun he allegedly used during the shooting. He told neighbors, according to court records, that he had shot his oldest son.

It Wasn’t Clear Whether Davis Is Farmer’s Real Father or Not

Davis told the detectives that he had shot his wife and son in self-defense because they had hurt him.

Davis is being held in the Franklin County jail, and his first court date is scheduled for Tuesday morning.

To date, there have been at least eight domestic incidents that have resulted in homicides in the city, surpassing the seven reported for the entirety of 2022.

Detectives are asking anyone who knows anything to call 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS.
