The employee was shot and died Tuesday while attempting to prevent a theft at a Home Depot in California. The Pleasanton Police Department said in a press release that officers were called to the store on Johnson Drive at around 2:15 p.m. in response to reports of a guy who was bleeding inside.
The victim was treated by responding cops and sent to a local hospital, the police said. According to the agency, the man was shot after a scuffle after trying to halt a theft. The shootout ended with the suspects driving away in a vehicle.
The Alameda County Coroner told FOX2 KTVU that the guy had died as a result of his wounds. The age and identity of the victim were withheld by the coroner. In a statement to the station, Home Depot confirmed that the deceased guy was an employee.
“We’re heartbroken over this senseless tragedy,” the statement said. “Blake was our associate and friend, and our hearts go out to his family and everyone who knew and loved him.” Near the 7000 block of Ney Avenue in Oakland at 2:30 p.m., the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office spotted the suspect vehicle and arrested the occupants.

The police have stated that the probe is still in its infancy and that more details will be made public on Wednesday. In October, authorities released footage of a suspect pushing an 83-year-old employee to the ground as he fled the store with stolen goods, making headlines about yet another brazen robbery at a Home Depot.
Gary Rasor, the victim, eventually succumbed to his injuries weeks after the attack. Accused murderer and robber Terry McAnthony McMillian Jr., 26, was apprehended in January.
