Condominium dwellers in the North End reported hearing gunfire on Thursday morning, followed by the sound of a car driving off. police in Bridgeport were called to the Coachlight Square apartment complex on Vincellette Street at 11:20 a.m. on Thursday, where they found 23-year-old Brianna Destiny McKoy dead from gunshot wounds.
Police claimed an infant was there at the time of the shooting but was unharmed. Capt. Kevin Gilleran of the Bridgeport Police Department stated on Friday that “The baby was unharmed and appeared to be in good health,” He assured them the child was in a secure location.
Authorities are looking for Derrick Francis, who they say dated McKoy and is “armed and dangerous.” Francis, according to the police, has a history of arrests in New York and is a regular in the Bronx and North End neighborhoods of Bridgeport.
According to Gilleran, McKoy and Francis were dating at the time of her death. He added that the Bridgeport police had been summoned to deal with the pair before. According to Gilleran, McKoy was killed in an act of domestic violence.
According to the wanted poster, Francis is 170 pounds, 5 feet 8 inches tall, has black hair, and brown eyes. The 161-unit complex off Vincellette saw an influx of police and emergency vehicles shortly after gunshots were reported on Thursday, and residents claimed they rarely saw police there.
Mary Halcott, who has lived in the complex for nearly 20 years, said on Friday, upon hearing the news of McKoy’s murder, “That’s very horrible.” “That’s awful … it must have been so frightening for her.”
Halcott said she was out of the apartment at the time of the shooting but returned later Thursday and saw police speaking with residents. “I don’t know of any (prior) violence against anybody here,” Halcott said. “This is a very nice set of condos to live in. It’s pretty well-run and pretty quiet.”
