The incarceration of influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan has been prolonged by a Romanian court until February 27.
Tate, a British-American citizen with 4.7 million Twitter followers, was first taken into custody on December 29 in Bucharest, the capital of Romania, on suspicion of participating in an organized crime ring, trafficking in human beings, and rape.
In the same instance, two Romanian ladies and his brother Tristan are also detained.
They should remain behind bars for an additional 30 days as police compile their case, a court ordered on Friday.
According to Ramona Bolla, a spokeswoman for Romania’s anti-organized crime and terrorist directorate, “the court has accepted the extension of the imprisonment of the two Tate brothers until February 27 at the request of the prosecution.”
The judge is anticipated to subsequently provide a written statement outlining the justifications for the prolongation.
The judgment was made after all four of them lost an appeal last week at a Bucharest court, which upheld a judge’s order to extend their detention from 24 hours to 30 days on December 30.
The brothers refute the claims.
Tate became well-known in 2016 after being kicked off the reality TV program Big Brother due to a video that seemed to show him slapping a woman with a belt.
The former kickboxer claimed that women are partially to blame for rapes and that males should own them. He calls himself a misogynist.
He said in a podcast interview from last year that he began earning money while living in London by persuading girlfriends to video chat and split the earnings with them.
