The body of fashion designer Kathryn Marie Gallagher was discovered in her Manhattan apartment eight months ago. PEOPLE has confirmed with the New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner that Gallagher’s death was a homicide. Her death was the result of an overdose of fentanyl, p-fluoro fentanyl, and alcohol.
On July 24, 2022, the New York Police Department responded to a complaint regarding an unresponsive woman in a bedroom inside of her Eldridge Street apartment. After cops arrived, the woman was found on her bed and certified dead on the spot.
Police identified Gallagher as the lady who had died on Friday. She was 35 at the time. According to the publication, the medical examiner’s office also found that Gallagher died as a result of a drug-related theft.
Authorities were unable to ascertain whether or not anything had actually been stolen from her flat. According to ABC7, police sources believe Gallagher was targeted in one of a series of robberies tied to illegal drugs that have resulted in the deaths of at least five other persons.
Gallagher had been brought into her apartment by a neighbor the night before she died. They subsequently went to check on her after noticing that the door was locked and the key was still within the lock. According to ABC7, she was discovered lying face up on her bed.
No one has been arrested in connection with her death so far. According to ABC7, the manner of Gallagher’s death is one of twenty-six that local police are examining between March 18 and December 8. The Rhode Island School of Design obituary for Gallagher praised her as a “painter and internationally-recognized fashion designer.”

In 2010, she debuted her namesake fashion line, which has now expanded to 26 collections shown at New York and Paris Fashion Weeks. According to her obituary, she was working on her 27th collection and was hoping to launch it in the fall.
“Katie dressed cultural icons from Daphne Guinness to Lady Gaga, Rita Ora, and Laverne Cox. An icon herself, she also modeled for several fellow designers and labels,” it continued.
“She was unique, beautiful, smart, unabashed, and always wanting. She was hardworking and talented, with so many ideas and plans for future projects. We are so proud of who she was and all she achieved in her brief but full and beautiful life. She was Katie, our daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.”
Her “family members, friends, clients, and coworkers she encountered along the road” include her parents, five sisters, a niece, and her grandmother.
