The district attorney for Los Angeles County stated on Monday that a man had been accused for practicing medicine on thousands of individuals, including cancer patients, for several years while pretending to be a doctor.

Pathways Medical is located in North Hollywood and is owned and operated by Studio City resident and physician Dr. Stephan Gevorkian, 44.  Pathways Medical offers a variety of medical services, such as blood tests, to its patients. In a statement, LA County DA George Gascon announced that Gevorkian is being charged with five felonies related to his unlicensed medical practice.

The suspect is being charged after an undercover investigator met with him on November 17.  The district attorney claimed that Gevorkian had ignored the possibility that elevated hormone levels indicated a life-threatening illness.

Aside from being illegal in California, “practicing medicine without a license can cause irreparable harm to the health of unsuspecting people, some with serious illnesses who believe they are under the care of a licensed physician,” Gascon stated.

Think in a modern way. The following are some recent events that have taken place in California:

A preliminary hearing for Gevorkian is set for May 24; the DA has asked that anybody “who believes they may have been a victim, in this case, should call the Consumer Protection hotline at (213) 257-2465.”

On Wednesday, prosecutors requested a warrant for Gevorkian’s arrest, claiming he illegally treated thousands of patients over the course of several years.
