On Thursday, the court heard that the 7-year-old Autistic son of “Doomsday Mom” Lori Vallow Daybell had a date-rape drug in his system when he was asphyxiated with a plastic bag and duct tape over his mouth.

According to East Idaho News, Dr. Garth Warren of the Ada County Coroner’s Office testified on Wednesday that little J.J. Vallow’s body contained evidence of alcohol and the chemical GHB, which is widely used as a date-rape drug since it knocks people out.

However, the doctor said he is unsure how the chemicals got into the young boy’s system because of the low levels of the chemicals found in the body. Tylee Ryan, 16, and her brother J.J. were discovered buried on the farm of Chad Daybell, Vallow Daybell’s fifth spouse, in June 2020 their autopsies were performed two days later.

Warren claimed that the autopsy showed that J.J. had scratch scars on his neck and bruises on his wrists and ankles from where he had been bound with duct tape, indicating that he had been conscious and fighting to free himself before he died of asphyxiation.

The autopsy of Tylee presented a particularly gruesome problem, the forensic pathologist reported, because the teen’s body had been dissected and brought to the coroner’s office in three different bags. “We were looking for anything. Bullets, a portion of a knife, any other foreign debris that we could collect as evidence,” Warren told the court.

“Essentially what we saw was a collection of bones along with other debris. A lot of mud and dirt.” Warren also corroborated previous evidence stating that some of Tylee’s remains were “burned away or were never found.” It was the most recent shocking revelation in the murder trial of Vallow Daybell, who is accused of murdering both her own children and her husband’s ex-wife, Tammy.

The prosecution claims she killed them because she was inspired to do so by the teachings of a “doomsday” religious cult that instructed members to kill people afflicted by evil spirits who had become “zombies.” Images of the two children’s corpses were shown in the Boise courtroom alongside the pathologist’s evidence that led to the murder inquiry against the parents.

The defense for Vallow Daybell had an embarrassing lapse in cross-examination when they asked Warren why he had not swabbed J.J.’s nasal cavity. The autopsy didn’t require such a lengthy procedure, the pathologist stated, perplexed. John Thomas, the defense attorney, explained to the doctor that “Well, I’m just basing this off of what I’ve seen in movies”.

That’s scary,” Warren said in response to the lawyer’s apparent ignorance. Vallow Daybell has been charged with grand theft, two charges of first-degree murder, and three counts of conspiracy in connection with the murders of her children. Chad Daybell will be tried separately for his role in the killings of Tylee, J.J., and Tammy.
