On Friday night, police in Maryland said they pursued and apprehended a guy who had stolen a military vehicle weighing five tons.
According to a press statement from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office, 38-year-old Michael D. Stevens II stole a 1986 923-A 5-ton military vehicle from a Bel Air, Maryland, property. On Friday evening at approximately 6:35 p.m., deputies arrived.
After being spotted in Bel Air, the car apparently entered Interstate 95. According to the sheriff’s office, deputies from the special operations division of the Southern Precinct joined forces with other law enforcement agencies to pursue the vehicle down the highway.
Multiple stop sticks were used by authorities, but they were unable to immobilize the car, it said. According to the report, the suspect was involved in many collisions with other vehicles during the pursuit. There were no reported injuries.
After traveling more than 20 miles away from Bel Air, the vehicle finally stopped in Baltimore. After getting out of the car, the suspect ran away on foot, but deputies “safely apprehended” him and took him to the Harford County Detention Center.
The Harford County Sheriff’s Office said the suspect stole the car shortly after being released from jail. Vehicle theft, two counts of first-degree assault, two instances of second-degree assault, and disobeying a lawful order are among the allegations against the man.
